The Technology Review article about Obama and social media had some interesting points. Social media definately had a huge part in this past election, and Obama’s use of social media in my opinion left his opponents in the dust as far as reaching out in as many possible ways. The shift in communication from more traditional means to new media use today has been compared to the introduction of television in the 60′s and its effect on the elections then. So in the 1960′s it was who has more television viewers, and today its who has more facebook friends. What will future elections hold in the way of new communication?

It’s interesting to think about what the next big leap in communication will be. Politics and communication tools go hand in hand. That being said, it’s not hard to imagine that whoever is most successful in utilizing the next big leap will have a huge advantage in future elections.

Social media is key in an election because it reaches out to so many people and makes them feel more involved. In this election this involvement of online users was key in gaining more support for Obama.

Yeah, I agree with you guys… I definitely think that, at least with younger voters, Obama definitely gained a lot of momentum by being able to use new media.

It ended up being so much fun to keep up with Obama since he had regular updates and calls to action. And McCain just seemed like a boring old man..
